Biography

Gina is a conductor and performer originally from London with expertise in symphonic, operatic, and choral repertoire. She began her career as a saxophonist, studying with Carl Raven, and is a recent graduate from the University of Manchester, where she studied conducting under Robert Guy. She has been mentored by Alice Farnham, Peter Stark and Agata Zajac and, in 2024, was selected to be mentored by Sian Edwards on the Royal Academy of Music Glover-Edwards conducting programme. Gina has participated in masterclasses with numerous prominent pedagogues including Sir Mark Elder, Mark Heron, Tim Redmond, Karen Ni Bhroin, and Jonathan Mann.

Since January 2024 she has been the musical director of the Hale Light Orchestra and has worked as guest assistant conductor with Stockport Symphony Orchestra. Gina also works as a freelance guest conductor around Manchester and the North.  In March 2024 she was appointed as tutor and conductor with Warrington Youth Orchestra and enjoys additionally teaching private one-to-one lessons.

Passionate about contemporary music, Gina established the Nova Saxophone Quartet in 2021, who have gone on to perform in many of Manchester’s prestigious venues, including Manchester Museum and The Anthony Burgess Foundation. The group have been privileged to be mentored by members of the Chineke! Orchestra and of the Apollo Saxophone Quartet. Their success as a group has led to many partnerships with current composers, commissioning numerous new works for this chamber ensemble. Highlights include premiere of Five Moods from the Moorlands by composer Dr Joshua Brown and a studio recording of Supernova, a piece for saxophone quartet and percussion by Rob Hughes commissioned for the Nova Quartet.

Gina has worked in the concert management department of Chetham’s School of Music since 2024, and has produced projects with the BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, and stage managed concerts performed at the Bridgewater Hall.
